On the corner of the Prinshendrikkade and the Kalkmarkt, you'll find this endhouse that has a view of the Oosterdok on one hand, and typical Amsterdam canal the Oude Schans on the other.
Kalkmarkt 1 is built in 1650 and listed as a national heritage site. It was owned by famous admiral Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter, who was captain of the ship de Zeven Provinciƫn. Originally it was built as a saloon. Till the end of the nineteenth century it was known as 'de Blauwe Druif', which explains the bunch of grapes on the facade.
The building was burned in World War II, it was restored into a copper smith.
When the owner decided to move his shop to another location, Ben de Boef picked up where he left off. Anno 2011 this building houses Tattoo parlour Het Ruyterhuis and still breathes times of sailors and naval battles.
